The .name domain is one of the seven new generic top level domains approved by ICANN to make up for the shortage of names in the .com, .net, .org namespace. Names are a big part of our lives. They're with us from birth and they're how people know and find us. Now, with .name, your name can be central to your life online too. As your .name can be registered for up to 10 years and ownership is renewable, your .name really can be yours for life. .name is the world's only TLD for people and personal names. Anyone can register a .name domain name.
.name registrations will be accepted beginning in August 2002. This will mark the beginning of the real time registration period. If you are interested in pre-registering .name domain names, we will submit bulk pre-registrations with a minimum of 25 domains. Please contact sales@trinic.com for more information.
Want to see a .name domain name in action? You can always reach this page by visiting http://register.trinic.name/. Using 'register.trinic.name' as an example, 'register' would be the first name, and 'trinic' would be the last name. Both 'register.trinic.name' and 'www.register.trinic.name' will function normally. It is not possible to use 'www' as a first name for .name domain names.
The most important aspect that diversifies the .name domain from all others is the format it is registered in. Due to the fact that .name domain names are designed for individuals, and that the majority of these individuals are known by their first and last names, this is the form .name domains are registered in. firstname.lastname.name or lastname.firstname.name.
There are two main services offered for .name domain names. The first is the registration of the .name domain name. The second is a unique e-mail service supporting the forwarding of all e-mail from your .name e-mail address. There is also a combined option offering a discount if both services are purchased together. Each are described in detail below.
Domain
It's for building a website as individual as you When you register your .name you are buying your own 'domain' - an Internet address that is exclusively yours. .name domains are designed to radically increase the availability of domains based on people's own names. This is achieved through the 'two dot system'. Uniquely for a gTLD, .name domains are only issued at the third level and therefore have two dots. This extra dot enables you to share your family name with thousands of others, vastly increasing your chance of using your full name as your web address. A .name domain can follow either of these formats: firstname.lastname.name or lastname.firstname.name You can also use your initials or nicknames instead of your first names, or use numbers to create your unique identity. If you register your .name domain, your .name email address of the same name will be put on hold for 120 days. If you then decide to buy, you must do so through the registrar that sold you your email address.
E-Mail
It's for always being in touch You're always easy to contact with a unique and simple .name email address. Global Name Registry has developed an entirely new technology so that all your email can be forwarded via your .name address to the email account you're currently using. A .name email address follows this simple format: firstname@lastname.name or lastname@firstname.name You can also use your initials or nicknames instead of your first names, or use numbers to create your unique identity. Our email forwarding service will accept incoming email to your .name address and will forward that mail to an address specified by you. If you register your .name email address, your .name domain of the same name will be put on hold for 120 days. If you then decide to buy, you must do so through the registrar that sold you your domain.
Domain & E-Mail
It's for your complete digital identity - at a reduced price This is a powerful package combining a .name domain and email forwarding address, providing the potential for a complete lifelong online identity. You will own both your .name domain (for example, peter.morgan.name) and your .name email address (peter@morgan.name, for instance). From the current platform of domain and emailing forwarding, this complete .name package will evolve and develop into a 'digital identity', offering a range of functions which will make your day-to-day life easier and online transactions more secure.
